Due to legislation introduced by the Government, this is a legal requirement on vehicles registered After March 2001, ie anything with a Y registration or later. Their aim is to improve air quality.
They look exactly the same, the difference is internally. An approved cat will have an increased amount of precious metal loadings and a bigger brick volume.
No. Due to the increased cost and the fact this is a more premium product, they can’t be offered at the same price.
Is this definitely an approved cat with a certificate? They may have possibly quoted for a non approved version.
The VCA will police this and if caught out you can face fines of up to £5000 per incorrect unit supplied.
No – universals can only be fitted to vehicles registered pre 2001, the same applies with sports cats unless they are for Track Use Only.
If a “H” part is ordered, a “H” part will be supplied, this will be apparent due to the serial number, and the vehicle information supplied with the part. There will also be differences to the packaging – fragile tape will be replaced by green “Type Approved” tape.
Yes of course. You can also download it off our website.
Yes, as long as the vehicle is running correctly. This is due to the higher specification of the cat.
Product Development will be able to help you further on this. We have a set schedule for when the products will be approved.
No – unless the vehicle is a Euro V vehicle (this was only introduced 2009) OR if it is a Cat and DPF unit combined, where the Cat would require approval.
Q) I bought a part last week for the same vehicle, but it cost much less. Why can’t I have one of the cheaper ones?
The part purchased last week will have been for a pre approval vehicle, i.e. X reg or previous. The one you require now is post approval i.e. Y reg or later; so you require the more expensive approved version.
You may have purchased the non approved version for a vehicle registered on an X plate or previous, unfortunately as this is post March 2001 you require an approved version and at the moment we don’t carry one in our range (again Product Development will be able to give you an approval date off our schedule)
Some of our parts are cross over parts, where the start date of the part is pre legislation, but the close date is post legislation. We would strongly advise to stock both the approved version and the non approved version where sales and car parc data suggest there is a fairly even split of vehicles registered. If you decide to only stock one of the parts, you could either be priced out of the sale or legally not be able to supply the part.
