BM Catalysts Committed to New Quality Standards

BM Catalysts have recently achieved the new ISO 9001:2015 quality management standard.

ISO 9001 is a standard that sets out the requirements for a quality management system. It helps businesses and organisations to be more efficient and improve customer satisfaction. A new version of the standard, ISO 9001:2015, replaces the previous version (ISO 9001:2008).

The challenges faced by business and organisations today are very different from a few decades ago and ISO 9001 has been updated to take this new environment into account.

The most noticeable change to the standard is the adaptation of a high level structure. This allows compatibility with other management systems standards making it easier to understand, and aids easier implementation. This can be helpful to organisations using multiple management systems, such as those for the environment, health & safety, or business continuity.

Another major difference is the focus on risk-based thinking. While this has always been part of the standard, the new version gives it increased prominence. This approach supports organisations to identify, monitor and address risks in a structured manner. A systematic approach also helps identify new business opportunities.

The new standard places greater emphasis on leadership engagement which allows for greater involvement of senior management in the Quality Management System. This ensures the whole organisation becomes motivated towards continual improvement; to achieve overall goals and objectives.

With continuous change in the business environment, the new edition places greater emphasis on performance management. By focusing on achieving desired results around performance, objectives and change, this opens ‘new avenues’ in the journey to higher levels of innovation, employee loyalty and customer satisfaction.

Increased globalisation has changed the way we do business and organisations often operate more complex supply chains than they did in the past. In addition, there are increased expectations from customers and other interested parties and with more access to information, today’s wider society has a stronger voice than ever before. ISO 9001 needs to reflect these changes in order to remain relevant.
